Mechanic

Position Summary: The Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and preventative maintenance of company fleet vehicles, equipment, small engines, and hydraulic systems. This is a skilled, non-entry-level position requiring substantial professional experience working in a commercial fleet, equipment, or mechanical shop environment. The ideal candidate will possess advanced troubleshooting abilities, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while ensuring all company equipment remains safe, reliable, and operational. All work is primarily performed at the company shop location.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain company fleet vehicles, including light-to heavy duty trucks, trailers and related equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on hydraulic systems and hydraulic-powered equipment.
  • Service, repair, and maintain small engines, including mowers, generators, pumps, chainsaws, and other landscape or construction-related equipment.
  • Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs on vehicle and equipment systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Repair, replace, and rebuild mechanical components including brakes, steering systems, suspension components, drivetrains, and hydraulic assemblies.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment and technical manuals to identify mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance performed, repairs completed, parts used, and equipment service history.
  • Coordinate with management regarding equipment condition, repair needs, and replacement recommendations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate company vehicles as required for testing, transporting, or servicing equipment
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional mechanical experience required in a commercial fleet, equipment maintenance, dealership, construction equipment, or similar shop environment.
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing fleet vehicles, gasoline and diesel engines, small engines, and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and equipment inspection procedures.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills involving mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to independently diagnose issues and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) required.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational mechanical training preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, technical documents, and diagnostic reports.
  • Must provide own basic hand tools.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding positions, including bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in a professional shop environment required; informal mechanical experience alone does not meet the qualifications for this position.
